Beating all expectations, che.net was purchased for $38,000 on New Year's Eve. The expired domain was offered with no reserve to the highest bidder. As bidding closed the total had reached a staggering $38,000. The previous day bids in the auction had reached a paltry $1,600 with no indication of what was to come.
Commenting on the che.net auction result, domain professional David Powell commented "It is a total surprise. Recently this sort of money has only been paid for .com domains. The domain market is clearly buoyant."
The value of a good domain cannot be overestimated. Imagine the task of promoting a top beer. Bill board advertising, TV and radio campaigns with promotional packs will help to make your point but when you can convince potential customers to type "TopBeer.com" into their home computers they will truly be acknowledging you product as a top beer.
